Time to catch us some criminals !

Ever wondered what the policeman of San Andreas , Los Santos , and Vice City really go through with maniacs like us rove the streets ? Well , this new indie title may give us just a slight glimpse into their world .

recruit The Precinct , a cop simulator game from indie devs Fallen Tree Games and published by Kwalee .

Hold up, what’s a “GTA-Like?”

Okay , let ’s back up . There ’s obviously no such matter as a “ GTA - like ” – Rockstar go to bully lengths to make some of the most elaborate , mind - blowing games we ’ll ever see . But that ’s candidly the closest comparison I can make to The Precinct , the latest ingress into the pig simulator genre .

It plays kind of like an sr. GTA game if Rockstar had stuck with the original top - down survey . The stand is high third - someone , and aboveboard , it ’s really good . The camera ascendance are intuitive , and the camera follows the action surprisingly well .

We play as Officer Cordell , stepping into our father ’s shoes at the local PD . After the tutorial , we ’re throw out into the street to patrol in various beats . For the most part , you ’ll be save parking tickets , dealing with vandal , rip over cannonball along vehicles – you know , cop stuff . But then , some days , the likeness to GTA really comes alive .

I had one minute where I was trying to stop a drug deal in its tracks . At this precise moment , a random NPC decided to steal a park motorcar while another cable car came rush along past with police cars in tow . Three simultaneous crimes , and I really did n’t know which room to turn !

And this form of topsy-turvydom is n’t all that rarefied . It ’s happened a few times . Once , I was just walk a beat , and some guy wire pulled out an automatic weapon and started shooting at us , distinctive GTA - style antics .

Great game, but it does feel a bit easy…

The point I ’m trying to make is that the game is a minuscule too promiscuous for a cop simulator . you could take several bullets and then blot out behind your patrol car for a few seconds to rejuvenate all your health . It ’s not quite immersive . More GTA joke , I guess . We are the cops that all GTA players would venerate !

There ’s another drawback here . This game very quickly becomes “ same - older ” ( just like real police work ? ) . It fuck off to be a bit repetitious , with the same crime occurring , and you hold to abide by the same step . But keep in creative thinker this plot was made by a modest team with only a few game under their rap , and they ’ve done a stellar caper .

What does the future hold for The Precinct?

The secret plan ’s already top out 1,000 very overconfident reviews on Steam , and it amassed nearly 10,000 players on its first day . And for sure , there are small bug – NPCs acting unearthly , cable car getting stuck , unused patrol cars not being locomote away ( where ’s the towing inspection and repair ? ) – but there ’s nothing absolutely game - breaking . It ’s well polished for such a little biz .

And while I was terrified that it would be fleetly abandoned so that Fallen Tree Games could work on their next form of address , my fears were quelled . A patch has already been dropped that fix a appeal of bug , and the developers have welcomed player feedback in terms of which feature to add next .

I see so much potential in this game . Maybe a cops vs. robbers elaboration that allows us to be on both sides , or one that look us working as undercover detectives . At its heart , it ’s a sandbox game , which leave it open to almost sempiternal hypothesis .

I would also love to see a deeper plot line with more wide-ranging and interesting character , but for what it ’s worth , I have loved my time with this game so far , and I ’m excited to see where it goes next .
