Same aspect but basically different
The approaching action RPG SAND LAND is one of the last works impart to us by Akira Toriyama , bear its easily recognizable art style as validation . But when it come to its tale , will it have anything to do with Toriyama ’s most famous piece of work Dragon Ball ?
Is Sand Land’s History Connected to Dragon Ball?
Despite the many ( intentional ) similarity , SAND LAND has nothing to do with the Dragon Ball creation . As just mentioned above , the only matter both have in usual is having the same person as a character designer , and Toriyama was well - known for having his art style close to his chest and never changing it , no matter which work he worked on .
Aside from Dragon Ball , Toriyama has also worked on unlike serial publication such as Dr. Slump . When talk of Video Games , his most notable works are the Dragon Quest series and Chrono Trigger . All of these works are very similar visually speaking , with an accent on spiky - haired type , anthropomorphized characters , and almost very facial features between the cast .
The most alike nerve we see is Lucifer , father to protagonist Beelzebub . Despite being closely indistinguishable to Dragon Ball Z scoundrel Dabura , this is a whole unexampled fictional character on its own which extend nothing from its Babidi - control counterpart other than very similar looks . But while it may seem identical at first glance , each of his works featured unique feature that made each of them slightly distinct , something that helped cement his mode as iconic in the first station . In addition to that , none of his work has any unmediated connection whatsoever with each other , aside from periodic crossovers ( unremarkably between Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump ) .
And it ’s no different with SAND LAND . Despite seeing many similar robot / fomite design to those we ’ve seen in Dragon Ball , or even dinosaurs that could well match in a makeweight episode , that ’s all a stylistic choice and nothing more . Do n’t expect Goku to pop up on your screen need for a fight . I mean , not until hoi polloi inevitably mod him in , of course .
You might see a more direct reference to Dragon Ball or other serial at some point , but there ’s nothing out of the ordinary here . SAND LAND is its own universe and was originally a one - shot manga by Toriyama , so take this chance to pay your final regard to one of the most talented creators in the last few yearsas many masses worldwide have done back in March 2024 .
