take care for a new adventure ?

Mirthwoodhas everything I love in a game . It ’s cozy , it ’s charming , it has agriculture , foraging , kinship mechanics , and even combat . That sounds like the perfect combination , right ? All the fixings you involve to broil up an habit-forming game that will abstract you for hour .

But Mirthwood is n’t quite the patty ended with a cherry red on top that I was skip it would be . You could even go as far as to say that the cake is n’t even ice yet . But not all cakes need to be iced to be tasty !

Mirthwood Review

Pure Vibes

There are a few downside to Mirthwood , but there is a batch to enjoy about it as well . And that stuff is more fun , so let ’s protrude there . Mirthwood is an lovely , quaint , and cozy RPG / life sim that surely does not miss appealingness . The characterization - leger art flair is one of the thing I love most about it . It rightfully make you feel like you stepped into the pages of one of your childhood phantasy books .

The graphics , pair off with the medieval tavern - style music , create a keen aura . you may almost discover the crackle fireplace behind you and the smell of the pages of that picture playscript turning underneath your fingerbreadth . It ’s a world that I in spades wish being in , and it complement the story well .

A Story Masterfully Told

The storey is one of the high points of Mirthwood . Without any spoilers , you are sent on a seeking to uncover the mystery left behind by ancients . With the help of elf , these ancient people constructed a series of shrines and monument throughout the Free Lands that hold many whodunit of their own , and , of course , it ’s up to you to discover them . The story is captivate and weaves into the world seamlessly to create some surprisingly deep lore and a compelling story that motivates you to dig deeper and learn more .

I often found myself totally enthralled by the history and entirely discount my farmly duties . Thankfully my animals forgive me , but it was hard not to get suck into the main missions and only blank out about everything else . The call of the story is hard to ignore .

The World of Mirthwood

That innovate the most appealing part of the plot – the exploration . Exploration is really what Mirthwood is all about . And it ’s not always a walkway in the Mungo Park , either ! Not only do you have to survive in combat with any figure of the imaginative high-risk guy loaf about , but you also have to just simplysurvive – full stop . Running out of food or get too tired can be tragical in the wild .

And while the reality may be littered with improvised beds , most merely cod you . The only bed you could sleep in in the wild are at the Campsites . The Free Lands alone is a monumental function filled with nook and crannies to search , every one of them harboring something interesting to get hold , but do n’t get too carried away . You still have to reckon after yourself .

The world is packed full of little secrets , from notes that help you catch a glimpse into the lives lived around you , to treasure hunts , thrill enemies to defeat , and rainbow - colored feathers that you may use to hike up your acquirement points or expand your armoury . There is never a dull moment explore in Mirthwood , and it rightfully is the highlight of the experience – although it is slightly spoil – but we will get to that later .

You have total freedom in Mirthwood , not only in terms of exploration but also in terms of who you want to be and who you want to get to know . The complex Morality system allows you to truly live on your own terms . Do you want to be a hero , or will Mirthwood be the start of your baddie arc ? The option is yours . You could always masterfully walk the line and give offerings at the many altars around the ground to get back some of the Morality points you lost from your dastardly deeds .

A Quaint Life on the Farm

The other glitter gem of the Mirthwood experience is the farming aspect . The automobile mechanic are classical but whole – at least in concept . The farm you are given near the beginning of your play - through is crude at first , of course , but it really cleans up nicely , and getting it to that point is so satisfying .

I particularly enjoy the fact that you are detached to shape your paddocks however you wish , and you ’re not restrain by a 2×6 auction block or something of that nature like you are in someother farming sims . you’re able to truly make a beautiful farm in Mirthwood , and watching it all amount together in the quaint moving picture - book fine art vogue is something that keep me coming back for 60 minutes on end .

Mirthwood’s Shortcomings…

There is so much to know about Mirthwood . There is a solid base there , a slap-up skeleton . Or cake , if you will . But the death penalty is lacking . Mirthwood is plague with skipped frames and freezing , sometimes leave behind you hanging for up to three seconds before the plot finally take in up with itself and you regain mastery of your character .

This does n’t bump one or two times throughout your play - through , either . It is consistent . Every time you enter a new area , a new conditions organisation approaches , the daytime transitions into night , and even if you encounter an enemy , the game will freeze anywhere between one to three seconds . It is quite severe .

There are also a few other minor glitches and error , like map mark not appear and thing of that nature . Another , more serious example , is when you are till soil on your farm . To till your territory , you have to vacillate your mouse over the pip you require to dig . There is a small invigoration confirming the placement and everything so you love exactly where your hole will be dug .

But sometimes , the hollow ends up ten foot behind your character in some other random place . Crops can be destroyed by till back over the same location they were set in . So , while I do want to make it clear that my crops wereneverdestroyed by any rogue holes , the prospect did make me a lilliputian nervous .

Fighting For My Life

I also find oneself the combat machinist rather clunky and hard to deal with . While you do have a wide range of movement when you ’re running around and exploring , you may only swing your sword to the left and rightfield . Not up or down . That means you have to situate yourself on either side of your enemy in combat rather than above or below them .

That ’s easy enough to deal with out in the open . It ’s not ideal , and it ’s not nonrational , but you may get used to it . It really becomes an issue , however , when you ’re exploring caves and other fuddled places . Cave system in Mirthwood often have prospicient , narrow corridors that you have to interweave through to access dissimilar areas of the cavern .

These narrow passages are , quite often , leading upwards into the cave . And if an opposition follow you into one , it can be a recipe for cataclysm . Since you may only swing impart and proper , and there is no elbow room to work your direction around to the side of an enemy in a tight passage , you ’re not able to defend yourself . I often witness myself swinging my sword in a passageway to no service while getting mercilessly attacked from above or below . You ’re fundamentally a sit down duck until you could get away out the other side of the burrow . I launch this quite thwarting .

There is Hope

If you are someone who gets easily irked by public presentation issues in game , perhaps Mirthwood is not for you . However , if you are a more relaxed person who can look past these sort of thing , there is a draw of electric potential here . The narrative is transfix , the farming mechanics are addictive , and the world is an absolute pleasure to explore . While the bug and skipping doubtlessly better your immersion and can be rather frustrating and unpredictable , the core element of Mirthwood still shine bright through .

Not all games are perfect when they are first released , and I am sure that Mirthwood will continue to be back up throughout its launch and beyond . Many of the creases will surely be press out in clock time , and when Mirthwood is unchanging , it will become an incredible experience . There will just be some growing pains to deal with first . At the end of the daytime , life-time sims are meant to be relaxing . It ’s not like you ’ve got anywhere to go fast , so much of the skipping and freezing is passable to an extent . This will be particularly true if you are disquiet while playing with your friends .

Mirthwood will be introducing multiplayer features , which I was unable to dabble in pre - launching . But I can only imagine how enjoyable the game will be once Mirthwood ’s issues are laid to rest and you may start farming with your admirer . That is certain to be the icing on the Mirthwood cake .
