Kieran had far more likely than solely exist to miss to the player trainer .

Yet , it ’s not that there is anything overtly ill-timed with the actor trainer overcoming the game ’s obstacle and becoming victorious . But , in prior games outside of this , there was little character development beyond it . Sure , the player trainer did beat clarity into N , but it was the determination and did n’t ultimately matter .
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet : The Teal Mask present us to siblings Carmine and Kieran . First mental picture of the duo are that Carmine is run on unadulterated epinephrin 24/7 , and her little brother is a kind - hearted boy who sees the goodness in everyone . Which is really the point of the story in the DLC as it is Kieran who always defends Ogerpon , a victim of the townsfolk ’s past and its present due to incorrect reporting of historical events . Unlike Carmine , Kieran is quick to befriend the player flight simulator , show them around his hometown , and excuse its rich story . He seems to maturate more convinced with every fundamental interaction , and the player character could potentially become his first true supporter .
This is short - live , though . Although Kieran went out of his comfort zona and evince you notice but kindness , as soon as you see a secret regarding Ogerpon , you check to keep it between you , Carmine , and their grandfather . The sibling that dislike you from the offset was the one that you partnered with , leaving kind - hearted Kieran and his love life of Ogerpon in the detritus . To make matters bad , Kieran overhear this exchange and knew you lie down . So , decides to give you the opportunity to get clean , and you do n’t because you ’ve got Carmine now .
But the instrumentalist trainer ’s sudden friendship and predilection for Carmine is only the start of Kieran ’s mystifying origin into his frenzied - depressive state . He ends up stealing the Teal Mask in what can be bear to be an attack to help Ogerpon himself , but the player trainer defeats him and wins the masquerade back . Even though Kieran decides to stay behind when the player trainer and Carmine go to retrieve the other three masks , he is still helpful , as he manages to turn town favour in Ogerpon ’s direction , as they now think the truth .

This is rather impressive when you think about how the last person who try this was label a heretic and how shy Kieran is in the first place . The cracks are healing , and the troika devolve Ogerpon to its home . But , of course , Ogerpon wants to be with the player lineament now . The one who is n’t from the town , having just natter and learned about its history only day prior . Kieran , despite his constant support of Ogerpon , is reject by it . This bowl over him , and he demand a fight to see who should rightfully lay claim Ogerpon but lose . This pushes the young trainer past break up dot , and he lock himself in his room , narrate himself that he will get substantial .
As much as it clearly is unjust for Kieran , at this point , I can understand why the musician flight simulator came away triumphant . Kieran is still shy and just beginning his journey . Of naturally , it is unfair that the sole outspoken Ogerpon suspensor lose out , but it ’s something one can forgive . At least until one considers the issue of the 2nd DLC , The Indigo Disk , and how it deal Kieran to the hurt of all the theatrical role growth they give him .
You see , it is light that between the result of both DLC , Kieran went back to Blueberry Academy and worked his tail end off to produce stronger and strong . In fact , he went from a meek flight simulator to the Champion . That ’s no easy feat . He come out of his cuticle , which is clearly observable in his type excogitation , as he is no longer a shy son conceal behind his sister ; he is secure and can stand alone . So , it makes sense that in The Teal Mask , he was hiding behind the hair covering his side , and in The Indigo Mask , it was tied back in a much more confident style .

So , disregarding of the initial motive , Kieran has developed importantly as a case . I would n’t hesitate to see that this is the most growth of a non - playable character in a mainline Pokemon game . But the DLC is quick to squelch it . Because , of course , the player character becomes a transport pupil to Blueberry Academy . So , despite his personal successes , Kieran is now face - to - face with the player trainer in his own arena , which is by nature formidable . It does n’t take long , and the player fictitious character is ready to face Kieran in a struggle to become the unexampled Champion . The player role can endure salt deep into the wound by prefer to use Ogerpon in the combat , which angers Kieran as he can not wield the temerity to do such a thing . Naturally , the actor character defeats Kieran , and all of his growth is immediately lost in that moment . To make matter risky , Drayton , who seemed to take pleasure in Kieran ’s ruination , refers to him as an ex - Champion and continues to cite it going forward .
It does n’t finish there as Briar , Carmine , Kieran , and the player trainer explore Area Zero to discover more of its secrets and to come across Terapagos . Which Kieran skip to catch to make up for missing out on Ogerpon and to prove himself finally . They do notice Terapagos , but of class , it too chooses the player trainer over him , and he instantly freaks out and catches it in a Master Ball . A win for Kieran that is abruptly - lived due to Briar convincing him to not only battle the histrion flight simulator with Terapagos but also to apply his Tera Orb on it . Which he does and loses command of Terapagos putting them all in danger .
This cause him to have a breakdown , and he then has to listen to his sis continue to reproof him while he is struggling . In the end , Kieran assist the player trainer , who then catches Terapagos , and they give to Blueberry Academy , where he apologizes .

But does it have to go on this way ? It makes sense that the player needs to come out on top , as that is broadly how game work . It just seems that the extent that which Kieran was built up only to be knocked down repeatedly for the welfare of the participant character was more than it want to be . Kieran did not take all of his development undone for the rice beer of the participant . Especially when his ontogenesis was pregnant .
Putting aside the participant catching both Ogerpon and Terapagos , I do n’t see why it was necessary for many of the other events to have unfolded as they did . Of course , the Pokemon games are rather RPG - lite , but it would have been nice to have been able-bodied to have to prefer whether or not you wanted to keep the arcanum from Kieran in The Teal Mask . He know and could address it anyway . He did n’t have to be throw by for Carmine .
His growth as a trainer in The Indigo Disk could have been hold as well . At this point , it would n’t have annoy me if there had been a scripted gap during the fight where Briar wanted to discuss the Area Zero sashay with the group . It gain sense to provide Kieran as the Champion , especially when the player flight simulator is just an exchange student anyway . Plus , he could have still had the epiphany that they were attempting to achieve , whilst still maintaining his Champion seat . Then , he could have gone back and treated his fellow trainer with deference and made a cultural difference buy the farm forrad . He did n’t call for to be beaten into a pulp .

In a short time period of time , this untried child lost his first good friend to his babe who did n’t even like said friend , was lie in to , beaten by his friend , the Legendary Pokemon that he always defend refuse him as a flight simulator , and he lost a struggle again . He then work hard to become Champion , only to fall behind that to the same trainer , and lastly caught a Legendary Pokemon , only to be misrepresent into using it in battle in a dangerous direction and then had his sister proceed to insult him . And in the oddment , you catch your old ally catch that one , too . pass on you with nothing but a list of unfortunate experiences and a humbled heart .
Kieran is a great quality , and it is fantastic to see the games admit more theatrical role development than common . But I think the story could dive a lilliputian deeper . The thespian trainer does n’t need to win all of the metre . Look at the anime ; Ash Ketchum by all odds lose more than his just share of upshot . But it just make the win even neat . Going forrard , it would be neat to see more characters with stories that cover far beyond how they were in the beginning introduced and are permit to celebrate their own victories . The player character does n’t need to dominate everyone , everywhere , and at every metre .
It ’s banality , it ’s unoriginal , and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet were so near to doing something different and making something great .
