Everything from cozy crafting games to slaughterfests .
Steam Next Fests are a custom for me at this point . I tend to love diving into the long listing of demo and picking out around 50 or so demos to strain and broadly find at least a handful of stuff to add to the 450 or so secret plan on my wishlist . No , neither of those number are exaggerations . It ’s because of the colossal issue of demo that finding the right game for you may be a serious challenge . That ’s why I ’m here to aid . Here are some of the in force demos of the Steam Next Fest for October 2023 .
Ghostrunner 2
Considering my dearest for the previous installment , it ’d be a crime for me to not put Ghostrunner 2 as the first game on this listing . However , that is n’t just the love for the first biz tattle . This subsequence surprise me in the first 15 minutes more than I was expecting , specially given the simple three years between entries . Combat matte up far more fluid with raw animations and less slowdown on brand strikes , while the new motorcycle section are uniquely intriguing compared to similar sections of other game . uncalled-for to say , I ’m excited to see howGhostrunner 2fully fares in just a few workweek .
Vexlands
This is one of two game from publisher Apogee Entertainment on this list , and that ’s cause they pick apart it out of the common this time around . Their first spot goes to Vexlands though , thanks to how much beneficial it takes from other games like it while carving its own identity . It call forth cloggy vibes of Forager , while having a more detailed art style reminiscent of game like Stardew Valley . It might seem very similar , butVexlandshas me starve to see what the hexes of the full game could be hiding .
SENTRY
Since we ’re in the emotional state of flipping between chill and butchery , SENTRY felt like a meet follow - up . While its appearance is rather simple , what ’s under the hoodlum offer plenty of complexity . In heart , you ’re plopped into a infinite station with a few tools you take beforehand , then have to progress up turret and snare to fend off impending wave of hostile creature from escape into the rest of the place . While its core is that pillar defense goodness , I was dismayed to see just how secure its FPS scrap could be . Fluid animations and crunchy artillery sound help forestall it from catch stale fast . I ’ll be keep a keen eye onSENTRY , more so than I wait when I first spotted it a while back .
Wizordum
For Apogee ’s second placement on this tilt , we have their illusion FPS Wizordum . This retro shooter feels very much like the 90s both in its level layout and fight excogitation . alike to most retro shooters these days , it ’s lift by more modern rendering techniques and gameplay . Even outside of gameplay , the vibes are utterly spick . From the lower audio timbre in some of the sounds to the cockamamie noise foeman make , it all sells that feel of the true classic . If you ’re feel a short nostalgic , or just have been enjoying the baby boomer shooter renaissance , Wizordumis as whimsical as it is wonderful .
Turnip Boy Robs a Bank
… look , you did n’t read that rubric , download the demo , and directly scroll to the next game on the leaning ? Well for one , you ’re a infidel , but two , Turnip Boy Robs a Bank is the long - awaited continuation to the legendary Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion . Both games are well deserving it for the cute pixel fine art and wit alone , but also bring some fun to the table in gameplay . Strangely , both are completely different gameplay - wise , but follow on now . Who does n’t want to run as a turnip commit all sorts of crimes ? Do yourself a favour and downloadTurnip Boy Robs a Bank ’s demonow . You ’ll give thanks me later on .
KarmaZoo
KarmaZoo ask the question “ Can 10 stranger work together to achieve something ? ” . Despite what every other facet of beau monde has led you to believe , the answer in KarmaZoo is yes . Another alone game from publisher Devolver Digital , KarmaZoo offers a ton of cunning brute to play as while you and nine other the great unwashed traverse a level . What helps to reinforce that sense of teamwork is the rewards you gain for helping one another make it through , along with the bonus of being pour down off if your character has been alone a short too long . KarmaZoois as goofy as its premise vocalise , and I ’m excited to see what else this cosmic zoo has in store at full release .
American Arcadia
Were you a fan of The Truman Show ? Well if you wish it took a moody turn , American Arcadia should be exactly what you ’re looking for . This combining of sidescrolling platformer and first - person puzzler sees a even someone find out they ’re living in a reality show , and attempt an escape with the assistance of an employee whose idea on the company are less than ideal . I was n’t super intrigued when I first saw its premise , but the demo has done more than enough to switch that opinion . control outAmerican Arcadiaif you have a few minutes to dispense with , it ’ll storm you .
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
Last but certainly not least on this list is a spinoff for your favorite secret plan about hemipteron , minerals , and dwarves . Deep Rock Galactic : Survivor conform to that reverse bullet Scheol trend Vampire Survivors kicked off , but tote up a few twists that make it sense distinct . While the meat gameplay of getting in there and avoiding enemies while your character shoots for you is there , what differentiates it is the whole melodic theme of minelaying minerals . see as the identification number of minerals affects what you may corrupt when traveling between zone , it create a risk / reward system that actively dispute you in gameplay , even if it obliterate me more times than I ’m willing to accept . Deep Rock Galactic : Survivormight not feel quite as satisfying as Vampire Survivors , but I ’ll be imprecate if it does n’t have me intrigued disregarding .
