The Last Worker is unfit and you should feel bad !
“ Who ’s the last one?I’mthe last one!”,The Last Worker‘s oafish , stupid protagonist constantly repeats after putting a package in a chute or spoil a robot up with an EMP good time . Kurt is apparently quite proud of being the titular character , which the game never really explains . He ’s the only human worker at an Amazon fulfilment center sort of place and automaton are seen doing his accurate line of work . Why is he there then ? An answer is n’t ever really given , which tracks consider how weak and pointless the secret plan ’s story is . Those adjectives can just as easily be levy at the gameplay , sadly .
The Last Workersets up its flimsy premiss the right way aside . Kurt lives and ferment at a Jüngle fulfilment gist , which is an obvious play on Amazon . While there were once C of workers , everyone else was fired . Kurt still exploit there for some reason . One of the other sack workers was Rosa , Kurt ’s significant girlfriend . Kurt resolve he did n’t want to go with her and that it would be skilful to live by himself in the dispersion center because Kurt is a monumental imbecile . Do n’t be like Kurt .

While endure about his existence , Kurt is contact by an activist via a belittled bird laggard . The representative tells him that Jüngle needs to be stopped and he ’s the only one who can do it . Why ? Again , I do n’t be intimate . The voice acting ( aside from Kurt ’s vexatious , gooselike vox ) is damn unspoiled , but everything else aboutThe Last Workeris the opposite . The dialogue is filled with unneeded expletive , the backchat is aggravating , and the script whole fail at saying anything of substance , even though it appear to endeavor to do so . The plot of ground culminates in three minute - foresighted endings that , quite simply , blow . The Last Workeris a narrative game with an impressively crummy narrative . Two of the ending massively contradict each other as well , which kind of pissed me off .
There are multiple types of “ gameplay ” include . Kurt will often need to do shifts where he grabs a specific software system , audit it to make trusted it ’s the right size and weight , checks for damage , and then either ships it out or throw it in recycling . This is always the exact same , which is to say it ’s extremely ho-hum . After putting a software in a chute , you have to wait for a while before the map will tell you where the next one is . gratefully , you could usually just deliver one or two packages and then just leave the game running until the shift stop .
But the above sections are the least ofThe Last Worker‘s problems . The other main types of gameplay are made up of clumsily sneaking past automaton and “ solving ” severe “ mystifier ” . The stealth is bog standard and tedious . The mystifier just necessitate you to match nine flippable block to an trope , which the plot consult to as hacking . This is even more tedious and dull than the stealth . There ’s also a minigame that reminded me of ship segments inRebel Assault , plus an endgame section where you smash thing while on - railing . In - game story sequences often demand you to suffer still while character reference roll or take the air forward ( and only forrad ) at a snail ’s stride .

TheRebel Assaultsections are the best affair here , but they lean to go on too long . Kurt ’s only instrument is the Jünglegun , which is basically just a somberness gun that has a few superfluous functions , including the aforesaid “ hacker ” and EMP that can be used to dispatch robots . At least , for most of the game . Partway through it randomly becomes less useful so that you ’re forced to centre on the stealth encounters . The Last Workeris almost never any fun .
While you might expect a narrative game to be braindead prosperous to get through , this one has some atrocious difficultness spikes . At one point , you have to use the EMP to take out a bunch of robots without dying . It ’s nothard , the excogitation is just questionable and it ’s the only time the game demand you to frivol away with any skill . This results in it being frustrative . Then there are sequences where you have to resolve two of the engine block puzzle on a timer . Since the puzzles feel random and arbitrary , this is also massively frustrating at times .
But the real trial run of longanimity are toward the closing of the plot . You have to sneak by two magnanimous robots in a long hallway without getting shoot and it is dead miserable . I jumped into the computer menu and look for a way to bound off this as it ’s one of the more awful segment I ’ve seen in a game recently . Thenyou’re forced to resolve two block puzzle while forfend one of these golem . And of course you require to solve both puzzle on a strict time terminus ad quem . I would only wishThe Last Workeron someone I hated . These segments take a bad plot and make it so much worse for no near cause .

Visually , the secret plan looks like it came out in the late ’ 00s . It ’s just ugly . Textures are low resolution , exemplar are undetailed . And front does n’t fare much good . Kurt moves in a hovering fomite that is horribly slow at its default speed . you could boost , but it ’s on a cooldown for , again , no good reason . This makes the hallway where you ’re sneaking past two big robots even more infuriatingly fearsome than it already was . away from the voice acting , the only thing I liked aboutThe Last Workeris that it ’s only four - and - a - one-half hours long , which was an routine of mercy .
I do n’t typically care to say I hate the games I brush up , but I hatedThe Last Worker . It ’s short , vile , poorly written , and built out of windy , ho-hum gameplay segments staring with moronic trouble spikes . I ’m beaming that I do n’t have to play it again and I ’d powerfully commend that you avoid it to the near of your power .
